ADR Research and Policy
At the heart of the Bangalore International Arbitration Centre’s (BIAC) mission is a commitment to advancing the theory and practice of conflict resolution. The ADR Research and Policy wing aspires to establish itself as a think-tank of national and global repute, focusing on the evolving dynamics of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) within the framework of constitutional principles.
Purpose
Recognizing the ever-changing nature of legal and socio-economic landscapes, this Centre has been established to:
- Undertake empirical and doctrinal research into arbitration, mediation, and other ADR mechanisms.
- Provide policy inputs that support innovation in conflict management aligned with constitutional values.
- Contribute to public discourse by publishing insights that influence the development of a responsive and effective dispute resolution framework.
- Bridge theory and practice through collaborations, workshops, and training programs designed to build capacity across stakeholder groups.
Our Approach
Research at the Centre is guided by the belief that sustainable conflict resolution must be grounded in a deep understanding of constitutional rights, public policy, and sector-specific realities. Accordingly, our work explores themes such as:
- Constitutional underpinnings of dispute resolution
- Legal reform and legislative analysis in ADR
- Institutional arbitration and its impact on access to justice
- Comparative studies on global best practices
- Industry-specific ADR challenges (e.g., tech, infrastructure, commercial sectors)
Building Awareness and Capacity
BIAC is committed to fostering a vibrant civil society that is informed and empowered. Our policy briefs, white papers, and reports are shared with legal professionals, academia, lawmakers, and the public to deepen understanding and enhance the accessibility of ADR.
We also work closely with educational institutions and training bodies to integrate ADR into academic curricula and professional development programs.
